🎙️ Speaking
Task 1 is independent — your own opinion, 15 seconds to prepare and 45 to speak. Tasks 2, 3 and 4 are integrated: you read, or listen, or both, and then summarise in 60 seconds with 20 or 30 seconds to prepare.

- Task 1 — Independent: choose between two options and justify it (15 s prepare, 45 s speak)
- Task 2 — Campus situation: read an announcement, hear two students discuss it, report the speaker's opinion and reasons (30 s prepare, 60 s speak)
- Task 3 — Academic concept: read a definition, hear a lecture with examples, explain the concept using the examples (30 s prepare, 60 s speak)
- Task 4 — Academic lecture: hear a lecture, summarise its main points (20 s prepare, 60 s speak)
♟️ How to work
- Have a template ready so you never waste preparation time on structure. For Task 1: state your choice in one sentence, give two reasons, one example each, and a closing clause.
- Speak for the whole time. A stop at 32 seconds loses more marks than three grammatical slips.
- Pace yourself deliberately slower than feels natural. Clarity scores; speed does not.
- In the integrated tasks, almost nothing should be your own opinion — you are reporting what the sources said.
- Record yourself and listen back. It is uncomfortable and it is the single most useful thing you can do.
⚠️ What loses marks
- Memorising whole answers — graders recognise them and the score falls.
- Running out of things to say at 40 seconds.
- Speaking too fast under nerves so that the words blur.
- Giving an opinion in the integrated tasks, where none was asked for.
