πΊοΈ State CETs
State Common Entrance Tests β State-quota engineering, pharmacy and agriculture seats β usually 85 per cent of seats in state colleges, reserved for domicile candidates.
π The pattern
- MHT-CET (Maharashtra): PCM or PCB, based on the state board syllabus, with no negative marking β which changes strategy completely
- KCET (Karnataka), WBJEE (West Bengal), AP EAPCET and TS EAPCET, COMEDK (private Karnataka colleges), and others
- Most follow their own state board syllabus rather than NCERT, and the difference matters
- Several give weight to Class 12 marks alongside the entrance score
β Who can sit it
Usually domicile in the state plus Class 12 with the required subjects. Rules differ substantially between states.
π‘ What candidates get wrong
- Where there is no negative marking, as in MHT-CET, leaving a question blank is simply throwing away a chance. This single difference should change how you sit the paper.
- State CETs are the realistic route to a good engineering seat for most students, and they are far less crowded than JEE. Prepare for your state exam properly rather than treating it as a fallback.
- Because they follow the state board syllabus, a JEE-only preparation can leave real gaps. Check the CET syllabus against your book.
Exam patterns, syllabuses and eligibility rules change almost every year. Everything here is described as it stood in the 2025 cycle and is meant to orient you, not to replace the official information bulletin β read that document yourself before you plan anything, and check the official websites for dates.
π Where do the marks actually come from?
The topic weights across recent papers, subject by subject β so you revise in the right order.
